Welcome to your class

Welcome to MILI.  I am delighted to have you in one of our English classes and we can guarantee you that you will learn tons of new things in the next hours.  We SPEAK a lot in class and you will lose your fear (if you have any) of speaking the language of Shakespeare.

During this course we'll hopefully get to know you all a little better.  But before that, we would like to introduce your to the professor who will be guiding you through your lesson.

Your English professor is Richard Garro....yes, me! Like the glasses?

                                                                 

Before we get started, a few pointers to ensure that our time together is very productive:

• Relax and don't be afraid to make mistakes - I am here to help you correct them
• Listen, talk and ask lots of questions - I love questions
• Stop me if you seem lost - I won't leave you behind.
• Have fun and enjoy this week - I'll make sure that you enjoy it and that you come out feeling more confident about your knowledge of the language

I will be using this website to create your course and store your activities.  Every day I will be adding more and more content to help you improve your language.  So by the end of this intensive week,  the website will be full of activities and, more importantly, your work.

I have lots of ideas about what I would like to teach you.  However, if there are some specific subjects, themes or ideas that you would like to study, please let me know so that I can help you.


...and for the future:

The work does not stop once you finish this English course. In order to improve your English, you need to spend some time outside of the classroom listening, reading and conversing in the language.  The internet and podcasts are an excellent source of information in English. 

Advice: Listen to at least 5-10 minutes of NPR (US), BBC (UK) and/or ABC (Australia) and try to remember new terms used by the broadcasters.  Bring them with you and we can discuss them in class.   BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/.  To the right of the main page, you will see a section labeled "Watch and Listen) where you can listen and watch the latest news. Try both if possible NPR: http://www.npr.org/  Go to the menu section across the page labeled "Hourly News" and listen to the summary. ABC: http://www.abc.net.au/news/abcnews24/news-in-90-seconds/  a short summary of the news by the main media provider in Australia.
